DJI LiDAR 15mm Rail Adapters
I had a colleague contact me recently after they saw my Arri LMB-25 Adapter I made hoping I could do a 15mm Lightweight Rail version for the DJI LiDAR system.
This was a fun project, not just because I love making things for people but because I didn't have the LiDAR system to work from, and I couldn't find one in town to use! Modeling support parts is a lot easier when you have the object you're supposed to be working with in the room with you.
But this didn't stop us, with a few measurements from my friend I had what I needed to make a mount that worked. The biggest concern I had for the part was the screw hole placement. After a few photos and some measuring on the part of my friend, I sent back an accurately-sized PDF for him to print out and check against his LiDAR unit. He printed the paper, confirmed a good placement for the holes, and I was off!
In our conversations, I came up with three different variations, all suited for set use with small differences. A very tight "Up-Mount" that would be good for small diameter lenses, a "Drop-Mount" that would sit the unit below the rails, and a "Micro-Mount" that was the most slim but would not allow movement back on the 15's with where the unit sat. I also added a 1/4 20" set of threads on the back of every version, just in case you needed to arm it in. (My motto: More attachments points on everything, always!
All in all, I had fully functional part to my colleagues door less than a week after we started talking about making it. That right there, the speed of this whole process is one of my favorite things about 3D printing.
And of course, I now have a new product for anyone else who wants it, here!
